about

by Hippolito Tromboncino (fl. 1545 – 1550)

From the Bottegari manuscript (circa 1565), this madrigal for solo voice and lute by the shadowy Hippolito Tromboncino (possibly related to Bartolomeo Tromboncino), is an early example of the highly ornamented Italian vocal style familar in the later work of Giulio Caccini (1551 – 1618). In fact, one of Caccini's earliest songs also appears in the Bottegari manuscript.
