To ask for all thy love, John Dowland (c. 1563 – 1626)
The poem has been attributed to John Donne, although the late Edward Doughtie disputed the attribution. Instead it seems to be an anonymous adaptation of Donne’s “Love’s Infiniteness,” bearing a similarity but perhaps altered for ease of setting to music. Mignarda performs this song on a bass lute tuned a fourth below a typical G lute.

Who giueth all hath nothing to impart, but sadnesse.
