The "Frogg galliarde" is an instrumental setting of the song "Now o now I needs must part" from Dowland's First Booke. The instrumental music probably appeared much earlier. This setting, like the other lute solos on this album, is from the Cambridge University Library Additional Manuscript 3056, formerly known as the Cosens Lute Book. Music in this manuscript includes several pieces popular at the time, but with interesting and unique variations, and sometimes a very quirky twist.
